Overabundence

All of these tweets, these texts and your words
People's minds are going to the birds
So many facts, so little time, so many things with no reason nor rhyme
Of all of these things, how many have use?
When can they be used, not giving your ego a boost?
Information is power, power corrupts
So follow that logic, and what about us?

The way that things have gone
The age of reason, has sang its last song
A bunch of disconnected facts
The way that reason will never come back
singing its last song, we can't sing along
Enjoying too much, to see what is wrong

The way that words hold their own power
This seems to have disappeared in reason's last hour
People don't care how others list
Thinking they're happy, while inside they twist
No one wants, to raise a stink
Information everywhere, but not a drop to drink

News from afar, from other nations too
And of these things what can we do
We all listen, maybe we care
But do anything about them, why would we dare?
The media frenzy, and its unending blitz
All of its glimmer, its glory, and ritz
But all that glimmers isn't gold
A little too late, our minds have been sold

Orwell was wrong, we haven't been captured
We imprisoned ourselves, in our own rapture
We aren't being watched, we watch ourselves
Listening to those beeps, buzzes and bells
Its far too late, to reverse course now
We enjoy ourselves too much, with this sacred cow

Big brother need not exist
For we created him ourselves
Our own personal heavens?
Or our own personal hells?
